Coway ‘Swan’ is a desktop water filtration product for home and office use. The water purifier can be placed wherever you need to drink water. It provides the choice of ambient or instant hot water. Swan uses carbon filters to remove harmful elements to provide healthy water. This project was initiated as part of a broader exploration into Coway’s potential entry into the European market. Before moving into the design phase, we conducted an extensive preliminary study, examining the region’s diverse design cultures. With Europe’s wide range of countries—and equally varied aesthetic sensibilities—we mapped and categorized these design tendencies to establish a visual strategy tailored specifically for Coway. Guided by our market analysis, we shifted away from the direct-dispensing format commonly used in Korea and instead focused on a refill-based system more suited to European lifestyles. This led us to develop a tabletop concept inspired by the familiar silhouette of a kettle—an approachable, iconic form that also enhances intuitive usability through its integrated handle. The result is a design that feels both culturally attuned and functionally considered, offering a fresh interpretation of Coway’s identity for the European market.
